In creating this installation, I wanted to create an overall environment that could replicate the majesty of the Madrone trees of the Pacific Northwest coast using materials from an aging Madrone tree on our property that needed to be cut down. I felt compelled to honor the tree’s afterlife in an ethereal, yet realistic, way. The branches in the “corridor” are all suspended from rods hanging from the gallery ceiling. I created the backdrop at the far end of the gallery by hand dying silk organza panels. These panels were also suspended from the ceiling, suggesting lightness and transparency and at the same time, creating a landscape for the viewer to enter.
